During the old government of Congress in 2010, the government became liberal and allowed private parties to build and operate the Airports. GMR took opportunity to build and run this domestic airport and appointed AHC to design. TDA became the Resident Architect to assist AHC to look after interior for private Airline offices at Ground Floor and few public spaces at arrival/departure level. TDA assisted AHC and coordination of public areas for timely completion of the project.
It was one of the first Airport in North India renovated and completed without any major delays.
